The Victron Orion XS 70A DC-DC Charger is designed to charge an auxiliary battery from a vehicle's 12V electrical system while driving. Ideal for 4x4 vehicles, caravans and camping setups.
Suitable for lithium and lead-acid batteries, with adjustable charging current to accommodate different alternator capacities.
The emergency reverse charging function allows the auxiliary battery to charge the starter battery at up to 35A when needed.
Emergency Reverse Charging – 12/12-70A
Charge a flat starter battery from your auxiliary battery in an emergency.
Requires Orion XS firmware v1.15 or newer and VictronConnect v6.43 or newer.
Open VictronConnect and connect to your Orion XS via Bluetooth.
On the Status screen, tap the engine icon and select START.
Reverse charging runs for up to 15 minutes.
Maximum reverse charging current: 25A (50A model) or 35A (70A model).
When Battery Ready appears, attempt to start the engine.
Engine must be off when activating the function.

Alternator Capacity
The Orion XS can be used with alternators rated below 70A. The input current limit must be adjusted to match the available alternator capacity after allowing for the vehicle's own electrical consumption.
For example, an 80A alternator supplying 30A to the vehicle leaves approximately 50A available before allowing an additional safety margin.
The charger can reduce or stop charging when input voltage drops, but it cannot directly measure spare alternator capacity.
Important Information
Non-isolated charger requiring a common negative connection.
Reverse charging is limited to 35A and is not a replacement for jump-starting equipment.
Correct cable sizing, fusing and current-limit configuration are essential for safe operation.
