Tail Gate Dust Kit Fitment Instructions

This is a universal dust kit which will fit most 4×4 double cabs and LDV vehicles.

Please note that because it is a universal kit you will have to cut the components to size to fit your vehicle.

For this installation you will need:

  • a drill with 5mm drill bit
  • pop rivet gun
  • a pair of scissors
  • a hacksaw

Please note that I use plywood on my tailgate because I use the tailgate as table while camping. Not all vehicles have this.

You will need:

Step 1
If you have plywood or any other type of cover fitted to the tailgate, remove it.

Step 2
Measure the long strips and cut to the size of the tailgate.

Step 3
Position the canvas so that it covers the hinges. There must be enough space to attach the narrow strip.

Align the canvas
Align the canvas

Step 4
Starting from the centre of the narrow strip attach it with pop rivets to the load bin. First do the load bin side then the tailgate. If you put the pop rivets 15cm apart it would be sufficient. Take care that the canvas do not move while drilling. Fix the centre pop rivet and then check the alignment before you drill the second hole. Do this with the first 4 holes. After that it should not move any more.

If you want to make double sure it is attached to the load bin properly you can add some Genkem Contact glue between the canvas and the load bin.

Step 5
Now repeat the same steps to attach the other thin strip to the tailgate.

NOTE: In my case, using the plywood, I did not add the second strip. I used the plywood to hold the canvas on the tailgate side. Because wood is softer than aluminium I did add some Genkem Contact glue between the canvas and tail gate.

Step 6
Now you must add the side strips.

NOTE: If you use plywood on the tailgate, DO NOT add these alu strips because they will be in the way. Rather use canopy rubber.

First cut the strip to the correct length

Then attach it to the lip of the side with some g-clamps.

Step 7

Drill 4 holes and attach it with 4 pop rivets to the lip.

Note that depending on the vehicle there might be an open gap at the top.

Now use the extra sponge rubber supplied to close this gap.

Now do the same with the other side.

Step 8

Clean the mess and have a beer. Your are DONE
